ID Protect

Shield your Identity.
Protect yourself from spammers and scammers

Did you know the details of your domain name registration (name, address, email address, and phone numbers) are publicly available within the central internet "WhoIs" database? Any spammers, solicitors and other prying eyes can find your personal information online, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Your email address can stay on file with spammers and marketing firms for many years.

Do a "whois lookup" for your domain name right
now and see what information is publicly available.

Interesting Fact: You must have valid Registrant contact information on file for your domain name or it will be deleted!

But there is good news. You can easily protect your contact information by switching your "public" domain registration to a "private" unlisted registration using the ID Protect service.

How does ID Protect work?

Simple! Your private contact information is replaced with the ID Protect service information. Your domain name is assigned a constantly-changing unique email address, which forwards to your real email address. Here is an example to illustrate how the ID Protect service works:

How does ID Protect help reduce spam?

Your private contact information is never publicly exposed. It is held in confidentiality and protected by the ID Protect service. The publicly visible "ID Protect" email address in the "WhoIs" database with your domain name is constantly changed, so if a spammer looks up your domain name information, the email they obtain will only work for a very short period of time.

(Don't worry, the ID Protect service secures and maintains your real email address on file so you will still receive important information from the registry regarding your domain.)

You have complete control

You retain full legal ownership and control over your own domain name. You can sell, renew, transfer and change all the settings of your domain name just the same as before. Your domain name control panel provides you real-time access to easily manage your domain name.

How do I activate the ID Protect service?

If you are ordering a new domain name, just click the "Choose domain options" link in the shopping cart, and then select the ID Protect option. The ID Protect service will be added to your domain registration order immediately.

If you would like to add enable the ID Protect service for a domain name that is already registered and in your account, here are the instructions:
  1. 1. Log into your account and go to the management area for your domain name.
  2. 2. Click the  link at the top of the left-side menu.

How much does it cost?

The ID Protect service is only $10.00 per year.
